Average Weight For Men
The average weight for men presently is heavier than men’s average weight 40 years ago. This may be, in part, due to the fact that people now are taller than they were in the 1960s. Presently, a modern American man’s average weight is almost 191 pounds. Of course, the average height now is 5 feet and 9 inches (1.77 meters). The average weight distribution in types of tissues is 43% muscle, 14% fat, 14% bone and bone marrow, 12% internal organs, 9% connective tissue and skin, and 8% blood. The average weight distribution in body parts is 47% trunk and neck, 34% legs, 12% arms, and 7% head.
People, both men and women, gained approximately 25 pounds between the 1960s and 2002 according to a CDC report. It identified trends in national estimates of average weight, height, and body mass index (BMI). The data was supplied by the National Health Examination and the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys conducted between 1960 and 2002.
Although adult men are about 1 inch taller today than in the early ’60s, it is not enough to explain the extra weight. Height and weight are factored into BMI. The CDC said BMI trends confirm that Americans became heftier over the last four decades. Between the early 1960s and 2002, the mean BMI for men aged 20 to 74 years old increased from just 25 to almost 28. That current number is considered overweight but not obese. A BMI of less than 18.5 is underweight; 18.5 to 24.9 are normal; 25 to 29.9 are overweight; and a BMI of 30 or higher are obese.
How to Talk to Employees about Group Health Insurance
Providing group health insurance for your employees is a noble idea. If you run the business yourself, this may be your first experience with choosing a group health insurance plan. It can be daunting, but it is not much different than when you were looking for affordable health insurance for yourself and your family.
The two basic types of group health insurance for small businesses. Health Maintenance Organizations or HMO’s are the most affordable health insurance for small businesses but they have the most restrictions on health care providers. A PPO, or preferred provider organization, has far less restrictions but they are more expensive.
Most employees of small businesses do not realize how much it costs a business to provide group health insurance. Group health insurance is a major expense for a small business. If you do decide to offer your employees group health insurance, you may want to explain to them why you chose the plan you did. They may feel that the affordable health insurance that you chose is too restrictive.
If you explain how much group health insurance really costs, they will be far more appreciate of your efforts. They may also understand why you can only pay part of the costs yourself and they have to pay at least half the premiums themselves. After working for large companies, many employees of a small business do not realize how much the employer contribution to a group health insurance plan affects the bottom line of a small business.
3 Simple Ways to Elevate Your Consciousness
Many of my patients and coaching clients over the years have asked me how they can experience some kind of elevation in their
state of consciousness without resorting to drugs or other artificial means. I actually believe that we are all meant to regularly experience ‘natural highs’ that result from the simple process of staying attuned to our purpose and taking exceptional care of ourselves.
Many people are blocked from this elevated state because they choose to partake in beliefs and actions that simply do not align with the expansivenes of well being that life purpose creates. Life takes on a whole new level of richness and texture when we can actually transcend our normal discursive minds and habitual modes of action. This is accessible to us all of the time, but we must choose to identify with our purpose-based Self as opposed to our small self. My book, The Purpose Principle, is largely about how to do this.
In my experience, there are many ways to heighten our awareness. I will preface this by saying that each of these methods may not create an immediate sense of elation or well-being; in fact, they can make you feel somewhat worse at first because they are cleansing your physical body as well as your doors of perception. With continued practice, however, each of these methods can help keep you aligned with your purpose and avoid the greatest enemy of all, stagnation.
1. Meditation:- Creates a state of heightened awareness through deeper breathing and the conscious relaxation of all areas of the body.
2. Exercise:- Even today as I was running, I was hit by an almost euphoric feeling of stillness and flow, albeit just for a few moments. Regular cardiovascular exercise and/or yoga is an excellent way to stay purposeful, as long as it is not addictive.
3. Acupuncture:- Acupuncture has a way of taking people out of linear time. It is very common that a patient will describe the feeling of only laying on the table for 5 minutes, when in actuality is has been 45 minutes. Regular acupuncture treamtent is an excellent way to stay more attuned to your body and to keep your mind more clear. It heightens energy, reduces stress, and induces a general feeling of wellness. Now, remember that the goal here is not to become attached to any sort of elevated awareness. Yes, it is very helpful to keep expanding the edges of your intellect, intuition, and physical body, but just be mindful of the tendency to get attached to any of this.
