Pediatric dentistry: dental radiography

The dental radiography has become more complex in the past years, forcing a mew kind of dentistry to emerge: the dental radiology. As a young stomatology student you might think about specializing in this area, as a lot of emergency dentists need this kind of specialist by their side.

Radiography can detect much more than cavities. On children it can detect an erupting tooth, bone diseases or plan orthodontic treatment. This kind of dental problems can’t be detected during a common clinic control. So anytime you go to a pediatric emergency dentist, be sure to have radiography first.

Radiography is recommended for kids every six months. This is necessary to plan tooth extractions or other kind of dental jobs your kid might need. Approximately three years you will need to complete set of radiography for your kid, including panoramic, bitewings and periapicals radiography.

Don’t be worried about the amount of radiation that your child will be exposed to, as this is not the case. Modern X-ray devices make sure your kid receives an insignificant amount of radiations. High-speed films and proper safety devices such as lead body aprons and shields are used for your kid to be safe.
